A surprising, spectacular, local discovery: Rivers, waterfalls, swinging bridges, rocky outcrops, ridges, bluffs, and overhangs just outside of Baltimore and less than 1-half hour from our door. How did we miss this place for so long?
We hike somewhat unexpectedly for 4.5 hours and over 6 miles without a trail map (unavailable in the off season). The kids were troupers: exploring, chattering, clamoring, and discovering intentional and natural "Goldsworthies" along ridge trail. Carl and I cautiously watched the sun's march toward the ridge while we intuitively selected pathways and hiked on in increasing solitude if not peace. We trekked the last 2 hours alone, encountering no other hikers and hoping the trail would drop from the ridge around the next bend and lead us back to the river and parking area. Eventually, we returned to the car with about 1 hour of daylight to spare.
We will be back after we order and receive some trail maps.
