Ok, so there's no scientific explanation or proof that it works (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowsing), but a friend's Dad recently suggested this as a means to trace our phantom septic system over at the Pearl, so the kids and I had to give it a try. We haven't search for the mystery sewage pipe yet, but our experiments with plastic containers of water proved interesting. We first filled 1 of 4 and checked if we could witch out the filled one. Next, Kallan hid 4 filled containers out of site among the garden plants and got me to witch out there locations. I hit every one and found some other mosquito larvae habitats among the herbs. I am not a believer yet. Our test were far from fool proof, and the witching sticks did not work for everyone. Kallan and I had the best results. Reece was openly cheating at times. I did not cheat, but I know your body has amazing ability to move and control objects with motions too subtle too be perceived by others--or even sometimes yourself. As a child, I enjoyed controlling a Ouija pointer and could move it as I desired even when my older sister insisted that only the nail of my pinky could touch the plastic. She was always amazed that our "Ouija spirit" had such poor spelling.
