Success (Stage 1)

One of our eggs has produced a caterpillar. I suspect this happened several days ago. On Wednesday, we noticed holes on the egg leave that none of us remembered seeing before. We did not want to remove the milkweed from the habitat for fear of dislodging the newborn. Judging from the size of the egg, they must be teeny tiny when they hatch. It was impossible for our untrained eyes to focus through the mesh and dissern a wee one . We figured a few days to allow for growth would prove if the holes were the result of caterpillar gorging. Here is the evidence: we have a munching, crunching monarch to be feeding on our waning milkweed supply.
